**Advanced Players Are Welcome!

Participants will be introduced to basic Afro-Cuban rhythms and Caribbean rhythms, call and response phrases, short history on each instrument and origin.  Participants will learn palo, Mozambique, rumba Columbia, bembe 6/8, and the very popular rhythm Afro. Participants will do a small trio or quartet drumming ensemble pattern and drum jam session at the end. 

Robertito Melendez is a professional freelance percussionist and Latin percussion instructor based out of Los Angeles, California.  He was born in New York, of Puerto Rican descent.  Robertito began to self-teach himself how to play bongos, maracas, and guiro by observing many musicians who visited his family when he was little.  He studied at the Ile Ife Percussion School in Philadelphia.  He studied Latin percussion and Caribbean rhythms.  Throughout his professional career, he has performed with numerous groups and various artists, such as Bobby Matos Afro Latin Jazz Ensemble, Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz, Francisco Aguabella Salsa Orchestra, La Palabra, Teddy Riveria and his Puerto Rican Orchestra and more.  For the past 20 years he has been teaching actively at Ramona Hall Community Center in California
