Arts Education for Educators
Learning Through the Arts: Core Curriculum Integration with Arts

Bare & Core Expression is pleased to launch a new arts education project for educators as part of its ongoing arts education program.  Two day workshops are scheduled for March 27 & 28, 2009 at Hawaii Community College Manono Campus.  Fun and creative explorations of integrating arts and core curriculum will be the main focus of these workshops.  On Friday, March 27 from 10am to 12pm, Vicky Robbins will present dance lessons integrating basic dance elements and the language arts and math.  From 1-3pm, Kathleen Kam will lead a visual arts lesson focusing on “Ocean Literacy” for elementary grades.  Participants will learn how to use arts, science, math and language arts to stimulate active learning within the classroom.  On Saturday, March 28 from 10am to 12pm, Jesse Seymour will present fun and inspiring percussion activities for groups.  His music activities will integrate cultural aspects of the core curriculum.  From 1-3pm, Bonnie Kim will share drama activities integrating social studies.  The workshops on various fine arts lessons are designed to connect with the Hawaii State Content Standards—both Fine Arts Content Standards as well other curriculum areas.  Lesson plans will be provided to the participants.

The workshops will be held at Hawaii Community College Manono Campus Building 3393 Room 119.  Workshop fees vary from $20 to $60 depending on the number of workshops signed up.  Limited space is available for these workshops and pre-registration is required.  Online registration is also available.

This project is supported in part by the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts through appropriations from the Legislature of the State of Hawaii and by the National Endowment for the Arts and Hawaii Community College Early Childhood Education Department.
